Meatpacking District: Ara Wine Bar

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would..

... go out for drinks to a little wine bar.

I would take a walk to the Meatpacking District to find Ara Wine Bar.

It's a cozy, relaxing place with a good wine selection. I find it to be a very inviting environment.

I would sit on a stool at the bar and order a glass of Italian red wine, La Mondianese.

Or the Spanish Rose one that's called Luis Alegre Rosado.

Or maybe, I 'd get the Red Berry Sangria, which is red wine spiked with Brandy and Triple Sec, sweetened with blueberries, strawberries, apples and oranges.

Yes, I would definitely get the Red Berry Sangria and sip it slowly while chatting with Ian,
the bartender, about travels in far away places...

Central Park: Shakespeare in the Park

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... get a ticket to Shakespeare in the Park!

It looks like a tricky process to acquire a ticket and I would find myself waiting in line for hours, but it would all be worth it in the end.

The play today is called "As you like it", it takes place in the enchanted Forest of Arden and, of course, it's all about love.

The Delacorte Theater is an ideal venue, as the enchanting Central Park can easily transform into the enchanted Forest of Arden.

What more could I ask than Shakespeare and love under the starlit night sky?

Midtown: MoMA

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... experience a Starry Night!

starry night

I'd go to the Museum of Modern Art, find the famous Van Gogh painting and just stand there, looking at it, for as long as it would take to get my heart and mind full with these bright lights of the evening sky.

Lower East Side: Mikey's Burger

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... go after the perfect burger!

In my humble, subjective opinion it can be found in a little place called "Mikey's Burger".

Last time I was in NYC, a cheeseburger from Mikey's was the most fitting ending to a fun night out at the Lower East Side.

The place has the character of a traditional burger joint, the people are friendly, the burgers are cooked right in front of you and, oh, they are delicious!

So if I was there tonight I'd make sure to drop by Mikey's, sit on the counter and taste, once more, what I believe to be the best burger in New York City!

Midtown: Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... get tickets to the Best Musical 2012 Tony Award Winner.

"Once" is the answer to the question "how often do you find the right person?"

It's a tender love story about a Guy and a Girl, with a side of heart breaking music.

The guy, an Irish street musician, and the girl, a Czech immigrant, spent a week together,
and connected through music.

The musical, based on the 2006 film, touched the souls of many and won 8 Tony Awards
this Sunday.

p.s. Since I'm not there to catch it on Broadway, I'll probably rent the dvd of the movie tonight!

Upper West Side: American Museum of Natural History

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... spend this rainy day in the Museum of Natural History.

It's a good opportunity to watch the "Coral: Rekindling Venus" that premiered yesterday.

Through it, I'd experience the beauty of the underwater life of the Great Barrier Reef,
get an understanding of how complex the coral ecosystems are and how the climate change
is catastrophic for them.

The video is screened in a special dome installation in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life.

So after watching it, I'd spend some time lying under the Blue Whale that's hanging from
the ceiling, daydreaming.

However, my visit wouldn't be complete if I omitted going to the Butterfly Conservatory.

It's my favorite place in the whole museum!

Having the butterflies dancing around you and, often, randomly settling on your hands is a
magical experience.

West Village: Magnolia Bakery

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... go after some yummy cupcakes!

I have a sweet craving all day, so I'd like to visit the infamous Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker Street.

I'd buy a Black & White cupcake; it's a chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream and
whipped vanilla icing.

Oh well, to be honest, I probably wouldn't resist buying a mini cheesecake too!

Then I would take a stroll through the streets of West Village to find a dreamy-looking townhouse.

I'd sit there, on the steps, enjoying the sugar, watching the people walk by, wondering what their life is like...

p.s. what kind of cupcake would you choose?

Brooklyn: Public Library

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... visit the Brooklyn Public Library to take part in the Save NYC Libraries 24 Hour Read-In!

Libraries, the homes of books, seem to be facing a financial problem in New York City.

So, this way, I would show my support and how important they are to me!

p.s. I would especially like to listen to the reading of Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time"
(a book I loved as a child!) today at 10.30 am.

Central Park: The rocks by the Wollman Rink

So, if I lived in New York City, today I would...

... get a hat, a book, some lemonade and head out to Central Park

The spot with which I fell in love the first time I visited NYC is close to the Wollman Rink

An area of rocks that are smooth enough for you to lie on and enjoy the sun!

The view from the rocks is the beautiful buildings that are close by, on Central Park South.

My personal favorite is the enchanting Hampshire House with its blue roof!

Oh, to be able to enjoy New York City on a bright summer day!
